I met a blind man on the trail
accompanied by two sighted friends
who offered to let me pass them by.
I elected to remain, standing,
almost alone, with my eyes closed,
and breathed in the first decaying scents
of the oncoming Fall and heard
the talking breeze that carried hawks
he had seen before me.

  1. A very sensitive poem. One wonders sometimes who misses most - a sighted person or a blind person. Often I think it is the sighted person who misses what is most important.

  4. Beautifully written! Sometimes closing our eyes is the best way to truly see. Thanks so much for joining us at Poetry Jam this week!

  5. Sometimes we see far more with our eyes closed than we do with them open. I think because it tends to make us focus more?
    Lovely imagery in this.
